The curated Concours d’Elegance offers six age brackets spanning 140 years of motoring history, and some of the most exquisite rare cars from all over the UK will be on display along with some very special anniversary celebrations.

140 Years of Automobile HISTORY

In 1886, the first Automobile four wheeled “Motorised Carriage” – the motor car was built by Gotlieb Daimler & Wilhelm Maybach. Yorkshire Elegance will look back at the fascinating & pioneering history of Daimler and the cars powered by the engines they built, including the Daimler Motor Company, Britain’s first motor car production company founded in 1896. 

In 1900, Daimler cars were branded Mercedes and we will feature some of the earliest Mercedes cars which ultimately led to the merger of Daimler & Benz to form Mercedes-Benz in 1926.

100 YEARS of MERCEDES-BENZ

The companies created by automobile pioneers Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler merged in 1926 to form Daimler-Benz AG. Yorkshire Elegance will showcase many classic early Mercedes-Benz vehicles to celebrate 100 years of the iconic marque.

W.O. BENTLEY 1919-1931

W.O. Bentley (Walter Owen Bentley) founded the company in July 1919. After success supplying rotary aero engines during WWI, he turned to building high-performance automobiles, the first car being unveiled in 1921 – the 3.0litre which won at Le Mans in 1924 and again in 1927.

Bentley won Le Mans four times in a row between 1927 – 1930 and became synonymous with racing success and champagne lifestyle. Yorkshire Elegance will feature examples of all the seven models built in this era. 

100 YEARS BUGATTI TYPE-35 & TYPE-37

The 8-Cylinder Type-35  is widely regarded as the most successful race car in history with over 2000 race wins. A Type-35 won the Grand Prix World Championship in 1926.

Bugatti launched the Type 35C in 1926 – the first time a Supercharger was used increasing power to 128BHP, in a car that weighed just 750kg.

The Type-37, also introduced in 1926, utilised the same chassis as the 35, but featured a smaller 1.5 litre 4 cylinder engine, deemed more manageable and easier to maintain for the privateer.

 

100 YEARS of MASERATI

Maserati was founded in December 1914 by six Brothers, passionate about engineering. They initially produced spark plugs. Alfieri, Bindo, and Ernesto built 2-litre Grand Prix cars for Diatto.

In 1926, Diatto suspended the production of race cars, leading to the creation of the first Maserati, the “Tipo 26” and the founding of the Maserati marque. A Tipo 26, driven by Alfieri, won the 1926 Targa Florio

100 YEARS Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera

Carrozzeria or “Coachbuilder” Touring Superleggera, founded in 1926, is one of the most celebrated names in Italian automotive design and coachbuilding. Known for creating some of the most beautiful and technically advanced cars of the 20th century, its influence on automotive history is profound.

 From 1936, using the Superleggera (“Super Light”) ethos, Touring designed & built bodies for Alfa Romeo, BMW, Ferrari and Aston Martin, including the DB5.

HEADLINERS

1928 Mercedes-Benz 36/220 S-Type Sports Tourer

The ‘S’ was created in a magical period for the company, shortly after the merger of Daimler and Benz. Chief Engineer,  Ferdinand Porsche built a powerful, yet versatile automobile – a true all-rounder, at home on the race track, hill climbs and providing exhilarating driving for the road. The signature engineering feature was its ‘on demand’ Roots type supercharger, which only kicked in when the accelerator was fully depressed, boosting power output from 120 to 180 brake horsepower for a few glorious seconds!

1886 Karl Benz “Patent Motorwagen”

The Benz Patent-Motorwagen (“patent motorcar”), built by the German Engineer Karl Benz, is widely regarded as the first practical modern automobile and was the first car ever put into production. 

To celebrate the creation single-cylinder 2/3hp automobile, we will showcasing an exact replica along side modern Supercars to demonstrate how the automobile has developed over the last 140 years.

VIP Hospitality At Yorkshire Elegance:

Grantley Hall offers the perfect setting for the two static days of Yorkshire Elegance. VIP guests will enjoy access to a private suite for the day along with a fine three course lunch, with wine and complimentary Champagne, prepared by the Grantley Hall chefs.

For guests wishing to enjoy the full three day event there are two VIP Packages on offer. Our Platinum Package includes three nights luxury accommodation at Grantley Hall.
