Great British Supermarine has unveiled the concept model of the Aerolite Spitfire, a modern two-seat kit aircraft designed for the modern recreational pilot. This Spitfire will be on display at Yorkshire Elegance.
Back in 1940, designers experimented with Gordon Aerolite—a resin-impregnated flax fiber—to circumvent anticipated aluminium shortages. Today, this advanced composite construction perfectly captures the iconic shape and geometry of the original Supermarine fighter delivering its legendary flying characteristics.
The Aerolite Spitfire features a dual-control, two-seat configuration. This layout makes it perfect for recreational flying, and syndicate ownership. Under the hood, a certified 400hp engine spins a large-scale propeller to deliver authentic warbird performance.
Priced around £750,000, this advanced kit will drastically cut ownership and operational costs compared with multi-million-pound original aircraft.
The project is currently seeking further investors to develop the 1st Flying prototype.
